Windows Live Communications Platform Error
Error Messages:
- Windows Live Communications Platform has encountered a problem and needs to close. We are sorry for the inconvenience.
Reason:
- You have a custom theme or skins installed like Windows Blinds or Alienguise.
- You have NVIDIA ForceWare Network Access Manager installed.
Resolutions:
The programs mentioned above are known to have been conflicing with the current version of Windows Live Messenger (Build 14.0.8064.206).
1. Configure Windows Live Messenger:
a. Exit Windows Live Messenger.
b. Locate C:\Program Files\Windows Live\Contacts.
c. Right click WLCOMM.EXE and then select Properties.
d. Click the "compatibility" tab and under "Display settings" click the check box that says "Disable visual themes". (you want a tick in this box after you have clicked it.)
e. Click "OK" and then sign in to WLM.
2. Uninstall Windows Blinds / Alienguise / other 3rd party programs.
Look for the following entries from your Add/Remove programs, then remove them:
- Stardock Windows Blinds
- Alienware Alienguise
- Macrogaming SweetIM
- Kiwee Toolbar
- MyWebSearch Toolbar
- Messenger Plus
- Smiley Central
- Info Pen
3. If you can't uninstall the NVIDIA ForceWare Network Access Manager, you may temporarily disable the program:
a. Click Start, click Run, type taskmgr in the Run box and press ENTER or click OK.
b.. On the Windows Task Manager window, click the Process tab.
c. Under Image Name, locate Nsvcappflt.exe and click End Process.
d. Click Yes to confirm.
e. Attempt to sign in to Windows Live Messenger.
